Juniors

The club is fortunate in the number and quality of the juniors who are representing us at present.   Over the winter we had ten teams competing in the Scottish Athletics Indoor League from Under 11 girls to Under 20 Men and two of them (Under 15 Boys and Under 17 Men) qualified for the Final.   That’s not easy when you realise that there are between 25 and 30 teams in each league and only 5 in the final!    There were also near misses for the Under 17 Women and the Under 15 Boys B team.  This summer we are taking part in the Scottish Young Athletes League over four matches and should do well.    Among the older athletes Johnathan Farrell and Natalie Quinn are in the Bank of Scotland International Squad and Johnathan won the 100 metres at the Schools International in Ireland last year.   They should both feature prominently during the summer along with Anton Russell (Scottish Schools medallist in the 60 metres hurdles and an excellent long jumper), Lewis Heath (Double gold medallist at the County School last year), Peter Bowman (gold in the 800 at the County Schools last year, Sean Griffin shot putt medallist at the Scottish Schools Indoor championship), as well as regulars David Brown, Sinead Griffin and Megan Reid.   One to look out  for is Rachel Hannah who is a first year Under 15 athlete and a super long jumper and sprinter.

In the younger age groups Tony Dolan is improving dramatically under the coaching of his Dad, Scott McDade, Greg Morrison and Keir Martin are ever presents and on the girls’ side Rachel Busby and Chloe Wright will do well in their first year in the sport.   They will be well supported by Beth Atkinson, Alice Hannah, Shannon Reid and all the others who have been competing over the winter.

Keep up with their performances on the website and in the Press.   You can also look up individual performances and their rankings by going to the Power of Ten website (www.powerof10.info) and clicking on the targets and rankings link.   Then just type in the name of your athlete and you will get a list of their events and performances for as long as they have been in athletics.
