Some 16in in diameter mounted on a wooden backplate. It bears the inscription.. Abercorn F.C. Sports 1885, Abercorn Mile Challenge Shield. Inscribed along the bottom of the rim of the shield are the names and years of the winners

 W M Thomson 1887,J Blane 1888,J Blane 1889,
 and we understand that he again won it in 1890 and was presented with the shield outright although he never added his name and date to the inscription.
