News Report Week Ending 1 February 2015

On Saturday 31 January in Kilmarnock it was the Scottish National Masters Cross Country Championships, which was for any athletes over the age of 40 and split into 5 year age categories. The first race was the Women and the Men 65+ who had to run two laps of approximately 6k (ended up being about 4 miles). Fastest harrier was Pamela McCrossan who finished 20th overall and 4th vet over 50 in a time of 29.11. This was followed by Bobby Young (1st over 70 and gold medal winner) in a time of 30.23, then Marina M

cCallum (14th over 40) in a time of 30.34.

Next off were the Men 40-60 who were running approximately 8k (ended up 5.25 miles). Fastest harrier was Michael Diver (34.39), followed by Hugh Laverty (39.52), and Peter Rudzinski (46.20).

Also that day, at the Emirates Arena, were the National Masters Indoor Track and Field Championships. Two harriers took part.

Iain Robertson had an excellent run in the over 35 race for the 800m to finish first overall in a time of 2.08.15. He followed this up with a third in the 1500m (4.27.17). Pete Cartwright also had two excellent runs also in the 800m and the 1500m in the 60-80 race, finishing fourth in the 800m (2.44.02), and third in the 1500m (5.40.52).

On Sunday 1 February Alan Dick competed in the Renfrewshire AAA 5 mile Road Race in Greenock in a time of 33:13 in excellent running conditions.

Further afield, was the Fulfords 5 Mile Road Race, which had Hylda Stewart running well to finish in a time of 38.42.

Two weeks previously Hylda ran a personal best in the First Chance 10k (48.01).
